It's a safe bet that any course that has hosted a recent PGA Tour event has plenty of teeth to it, especially when played from the tips.

As the former host of the Honda Classic (1997-2002, when it was known as the TPC Heron Bay), this Mark McCumber layout saw Stuart Appleby, Mark Calcavecchia, Vijay Singh, Dudley Hart, Jesper Parnevik and Matt Kuchar win titles. And the list of Dixie Amateur past champions is equally impressive, as the winter tournament is an annual mainstay on the amateur circuit.

Golf Magazine ranks it in the "Top Ten Places You Can Play" in Florida, and Golf Digest gives Heron Bay 4 stars.

But what do first time players think of Heron Bay? One of our amateurgolf.com members teed it up there recently, and enjoyed the experience, starting with the drive up the palm tree-lined lane leading to the clubhouse.

"Driving down the lane to Heron Bay is superb, it has a fantastic feel to it. We were met my two members of staff who took care of our every need. The clubhouse/pro shop facilities are great. The staff there also took care of our every need, they are truly wonderful. The course (apart from all the sand....!!) is a very fair test. It is in a great location too. For big events (such as the Dixie) there is the option to toughen it up."

Visit the club's website at www.heronbaygolfclub.net to find tee time specials - recent prices have been seen under $50, an unbelievable value.
