First opened in 1924, Lakeside is known for the smallest greens around, and with only two par-5's, it plays a long 6,700 yards for a par 70 course.

LAYOUT & DESIGN

Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank, Calif. re-opened 18 holes after a year-long restoration of the course. It started with a need to install new irrigation and drainage, then we decided to add brand new Tif 2 Bermuda for all the fairways, lengthen the course, remove trees and make the course even tougher.

Host to the first California Amateur Championship in Southern California a few years ago, Lakeside was always a great course but needed a professional superintendent to take it to the next level.

Lakeside got that two years ago when we hired Robert Hertzing (previously at Valencia Country Club). He not only supervised the entire restoration of the course but has kept the greens fast and glassy for two years now, some of the best I have ever played.

SIGNATURE HOLES

Lakeside's signature holes include the 3rd hole, a Par 3, playing 192 yards to a hard and fast green; the 4th hole, a Par 5 which plays almost 600 yards to a tiny green; the 9th hole, a 245-yard par 3; and the new lengthened 18th hole which demands a drive that avoids a gaping bunker which takes up the left half of the fairway and is now in play.
