Cobra DS-Adapt Drivers Review: Extreme adjustability, and a model for every player
Austin Peckham, the newest member of the AmateurGolf.com Equipment Panel, took the Cobra DS Adapt driver series for a spin, testing the Max K, X, and LS models. The star feature of these drivers is the FutureFit33 adjustable hosel, which allows golfers to fine-tune their loft and lie with 33 different combinations, adjusting up to ±2 degrees in either direction.
Starting with the Max K, Austin expected his usual ball flight—a natural cut with a 268 to 280-yard carry and 300-yard total distance. His first shot carried 268 yards with a 160 mph ball speed, but it faded more than he wanted. Using the QR code on the hosel, he accessed the FutureFit33 fitting chart and adjusted to D2, which helped straighten his ball flight and added 5–6 yards of carry.
"I’ve never seen a driver be this easy to adjust and instantly correct my shot shape,” he said.
Next, Austin tested the DS Adapt X, a mid-flight, lower-spin driver built for players looking for more speed. Setting it to D2 from the start, he gained 3.5 mph in ball speed, bringing it up to 163 mph, while reducing spin by 600–700 RPMs. His final numbers: 278 yards of carry, 295 yards total, with 162.5 mph ball speed.
Moving on to the DS Adapt LS, a low-spin, tour-inspired head, Austin appreciated its workability and control, but as a scratch golfer with a moderate swing speed (108-112 mph), he found it less forgiving than the other models. While his carry distances remained strong at 270 yards, the LS model’s lower spin (around 2134 RPMs) made it more suited for high-speed players looking to reduce spin and maximize control.
Final Thoughts: The Best Fit for Different GolfersAfter testing all three, Austin chose the DS Adapt X as his ideal driver. He found that it provided the best combination of speed, forgiveness, and ball flight control for his game. The Max K will likely appeal to players seeking the most forgiveness, while the LS model is better suited for players with higher swing speeds needing a low-spin, penetrating trajectory.
