Martin grabs lead at Colo. Women's Stroke Play
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (June 27, 2013) — Two-time champion Melissa Martin of Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction shot a 1-over-par 72 Thursday to move into the lead at the 66th CWGA Stroke Play Championship at the Ranch Country Club in Westminster.

The former University of Denver golfer made three birdies and four bogeys in round 2 to check in with a 6-over 148 total. That leaves her one stroke ahead of Hale Irwin Elite Player Hannah Wood of CommonGround Golf Course, who carded a 77 Thursday.

First-round leader Kelly Moran of Boulder Country Club, recent winner of the CWGA Junior Stroke Play, stands in third place at 150 after a second-round 78. Christina Spinzig of Hiwan Golf Club also fired a 78 on Thursday, leaving the Colorado State University golfer in fourth place at 152.

Defending champion Somin Lee will go into Friday's final round six strokes out of the lead.

Martin, who won CWGA Stroke Play titles in 2009 and '10, will tee off at 10:48 a.m. on Friday along with Wood and Moran.

54 holes of individual stroke play with the following divisions:

Championship Division:

There will be no flights within this division. All registered players within the division compete against each other for Gross prizes. The State Women’s Stroke Play Champion will be awarded from this division.

Handicap Index Recommendation: 9.0 or below

Mid-Amateur Division (25 years or older):

There will be no flights within this division. All registered players within the division compete against each other for Gross prizes. The State Women’s Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Champion will be awarded from this division.

Handicap Index Recommendation: 15.0 or below

Age Limit: Must be 25 years or older on the first day of the championship.

Flighted Division:

Competitors are pre-flighted by playing handicap. The committee will determine flight size based on player numbers and handicap spread. Gross and Net prizes awarded within each flight.

Handicap Index Max: 30.0

Note: All players will compete at 95% of course handicap.
