Nathan Smith wins Penn. Match Play

HUNTINGDON, Penn. (July 10, 2013) -- Four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion and 2013 Walker Cup hopeful Nathan Smith won twice on Wednesday to take home the 2013 Pennsylvania Amateur Championship at Huntingdon Valley Country Club.
Smith, the top seed, bested No. 7 Brandon Matthews, 2-and-1 in the final match.
Smith was 1-up after seven holes but Matthews managed to make it all square until going 1-up himself on the 9th hole.
Smith would win Nos. 10, 12, 14 and 15 to close out the 2-and-1 victory.
Smith was a 4-and-2 winner over Michael Johnson in the semifinals played Wednesday morning.
Matthews defeated David Brown 2-and-1 to move to the final match.

Open to any male amateur golfer who is a member
of a
club belonging to the Pennsylvania Golf Association.
Format consists of two rounds of stroke play
followed
by a cut to the low 16 players for match play.
