U.S. Senior Open: Knapp low am at 2-over
OMAHA, Neb. (July 11, 2013) -- Sean Knapp shot a 2-over 72 and is sitting as the low amateur after Round 1 at the 2013 U.S. Senior Open Championship at Omaha Country Club.

Knapp's 72 puts him in a tie for 46th place, five back of seven players sitting at 3-under, including Mark O'Meara, Fred Funk, Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry.

George Zahringer is one back of Knapp after a 3-over 73. He's tied for 61st place.

John Pate, Jack Hall, Doug Hanzel, Mike McCoy and Jeff Wilson all shot 4-over 74s and are tied for 80th place.

ABOUT THE U.S. Senior Open

The U.S. Senior Open is one of 15 national championships conducted by the USGA. Open to amateurs and professionals who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of the championship.

The Senior Open was first played in 1980 with a purse of, get this, just $100,000. Roberto Vincenzo of Argentina was the inaugural champion (winning $20,000), and Arnold Palmer was a popular winner the following year in 1981 at Oakland Hills.
