Indiana Women's: Podzielinski goes low at home course
FRANKLIN, Ind. (July 18, 2013) -- Noblesville’s Emily Podzielinski fired the low round of the tournament today at her home course, Harbour Trees GC. After carding a 2-over-par 73 during the opening round of the Women’s Amateur Championship, she paired that with a 2-under-par 69 today and snuck past first round leaders.
"My round was pretty consistent,” said Podzielinski, a rising senior at the University of Arkansas. "I didn’t make a bogey until number 13 and I made a couple of birdies at the end. I stayed patient all day and was hitting greens and giving myself chances. I wasn’t able to make any putts early on, but I got some to drop this afternoon.”
Podzielinski’s round consisted of three birdies coming on the par 3, 12th hole, the par 4, 15th hole, and the par 5, 17th hole. Her lone bogey came on the par 4, 13th hole.
"It would be huge to win on my home course,” Podzielinski said. "I grew up playing here and I would love to win in front of my family.”
Two of yesterday’s five leaders, Haley Kluth and Molly Ward, are just one shot back at 1-over-par.
After today, players were flighted. The top twenty players with two day totals of 155 and better complete the Championship Flight. The rest of the field makes up the remaining six flights.
