Park defeated fellow-collegian and No. 6 seed Manav Shah, coming back to win four of the final six holes, which included a chip-in for eagle on the par 5, 489-yard 13th hole, turning the momentum of the match in his favor. He moves on to face MacArthur, who survived a 19-hole showdown with John Pate of Santa Barbara to advance.

One of the best matches of the day, however, didn't involve any current college athletes, as Gary Robinson of San Diego and Dick Engel of Lancaster, two mid-ams, took their battle to 20 holes before determining a winner. Heading into the 18th hole 1 down, Engel secured a clutch birdie to send the match to extra holes. His momentum didn't last long, however, as a bogey on the 20th hole secured the victory for his opponent, Robinson. Robinson will move on to face 2011 Champion Arboleda Tuesday morning.

A number of local golfer's played exceptionally well, as four Brookside GC members won their matches. Long-time SCGA Tournament participants Tim Hogarth, Dan Sullivan and Mark Miller all advanced, while fellow Brookside member Anthony Melillo also won his match, upsetting No. 14 seed Benjamin Lein. Sullivan and Melillo will face off against each other Tuesday morning at 9:50 a.m.

The only top-5 seed to fall Monday was No. 2 seed Mark Anguiano, who was upset by rising Arizona State senior Ben Shur, who just qualified for the championship Tuesday at Brookside GC. Shur took a 1 up lead on the 13th hole, his second lead of the match, and never relinquished it, extending it to two with 15 holes to play. A par on the 423-yard 16th hole sealed the deal, and sent Anguiano home early.Round of 16 matches will begin at 8:50 a.m. They will be directly followed by the quarterfinals, which tees off at 1:50 p.m.
