Team USA for The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship was announced on Sept. 17 via team captain Paige Mackenzie on Twitter.

Clemson freshman Ashlan Ramsey and junior Ally McDonald will represent the women’s team, while Oklahoma State junior Jordan Niebrugge and Golfweek’s No. 1-ranked junior Scottie Scheffler will represent the men’s team.

This year’s event is at Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas, Oct. 30 - Nov. 2.

The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship features the world’s best amateur men and women golfers in team and individual competitions. The 80 participants enjoy an Olympic-like experience from the Opening Ceremonies, to an international village, to Closing Ceremonies.

It was established in 2001, when World Health & Golf Association and Texas Golf Association invited 20 countries from six continents. It’s a biennial event that alternates with the World Amateur Team Championships.

The Championship is 72 holes of best ball competition with five separate competitions are conducted: International Team (combined best ball of the men’s and women’s teams), Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Individual and Women’s Individual. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded for the top three finishes just like the Olympics.

Ashlan Ramsey: Ramsey just started her first season at Clemson University, the team’s inaugural season. She won the 2013 Women’s Trans-National Amateur, the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship, the Women’s Eastern Golf Association Amateur, and the Women’s Western Amateur Championship. She represented the United States at the Junior Solheim Cup in August.

Ally McDonald: McDonald won the Central Regional during her sophomore season at Mississippi State. She represented the Bulldogs at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., where she finished 10th. She won the North and South Women’s Amateur. McDonald made it to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Jordan Niebrugge: Over the summer, Niebrugge won the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the Western Amateur, the Wisconsin Stroke Play Championship and the Wisconsin Match Play Championship – all within a month of each other. The Oklahoma State junior represented the United States in the Walker Cup at National Golf Links of America. He went 2-2-0.

Scottie Scheffler: The No. 1-ranked junior in the country, according to Golfweek, won the U.S. Junior Amateur at Martis Camp Club in July. Scheffler made it to the quarterfinal of the U.S. Amateur at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. He is committed to play college golf at Texas in 2014.
