Crump Cup: 2008 champ Michael Muehr takes 2-shot lead at Pine Valley

PINE VALLEY, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2013) -- Michael Muehr of Potomac Falls, VA shot an impressive 2-under 68 to lead the field after the opening day of the 89th Annual George Crump Memorial Tournament at Prestigious Pine Valley.
The 2008 Champion leads Andrew Biggadike of Belmont, CA by a shot and Matt Mattare of Jersey City, NJ by two.
Scott Rowe is fourth thanks to a 71 to open play. He's one shot better than John Patterson and Keith Patterson at 72.
Notable players on the top half of the scoreboard include North Carolina's Scott Harvey (74), Brian Komline (74) and Randy Haag (75). In the Senior Division, Alan Fadel of Toledo, Ohio and Jeff Burda of Modesto, CA are tied at 72.
Steve Smyers and Martin R. West III are tied for third at 73.
The second and final round of stroke-play qualifying will continue Friday morning ahead of the 16-player match-play portion of the event, which concludes on Sunday.

Pine Valley -- is arguably the premier mid-
amateur
event in the United States. The invitational field
is
made of of top players from around the United
States
and the UK. The format for the four days is two
rounds
of stroke play qualifying, followed by four
rounds
of
match play. Players are flighted according to
their
qualifying position, and a separate Senior flight
includes three of those flights. Jay Sigel has won
the
event the most times, with nine victories
between
1975 and 1993.
Normally, the public is invited to attend the Sunday
final matches but that tradition has been suspended.
