Crump Cup: Match play fields set

Pine Valley, NJ (Sept. 27, 2013) -- Michael McDermott of Bryn Mawr, PA and Gene Elliott of West Des Moines, IA both shot second round 67’s to share medalist honors with a score of 141 in the Open Division of the 89th annual George Arthur Crump Memorial Tournament at the Pine Valley Golf Club.
Elliott will face Keith Decker of Martinsville, VA and defending champ McDermott plays Jeff Osberg of West Chester, PA in Saturday morning’s first round of match play.
In the Senior Division, Martin R. West, III of Rockville, MD won medalist honors with scores of 73 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 144. West will play David Nelson of Reno, NV in the first round of Senior Division match play on Saturday afternoon.
The public is invited to view the final matches on Sunday, September 29th. The gates will open at approximately 1:00pm.

The George A. Crump Memorial Tournament --
named
for the
hotelier and course architect most famous for
building
Pine Valley -- is arguably the premier mid-
amateur
event in the United States. The invitational field
is
made of of top players from around the United
States
and the UK. The format for the four days is two
rounds
of stroke play qualifying, followed by four
rounds
of
match play. Players are flighted according to
their
qualifying position, and a separate Senior flight
includes three of those flights. Jay Sigel has won
the
event the most times, with nine victories
between
1975 and 1993.
Normally, the public is invited to attend the Sunday
final matches but that tradition has been suspended.
