Colby Harwell wins Crane Cup
PALM CITY, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2013) -- Colby Harwell caught fire in Sunday's final round to win by an impressive nine shots at the 2013 Crane Cup.
Harwell, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead, shot 64 --- the low round of the tournament --- and won with ease over Jon Veneziano and Gene Elliot, who tied for second, and a loaded field of the nation's top mid-amateurs.
Harwell opened with a mediocre 73 but finished the weekend with rounds of 69 and 64 to pull ahead and outlast the field.
Veneziano (68) and Elliot (70) both broke par to creep into the top three during the final round of play Sunday at The Floridian.
Aaron Hickman took solo fourth while Scott Almquist shot 68 to slide into solo fifth place.
Tournament coordinator Kevin Marsh and defending champion Patrick Christovich were tied for sixth place.
Duke Delcher rallied with a final-round 71 to tie Jim Lehman before defeating him in a playoff to win the senior division.
David Anthony took third while Doug Lacrosse placed fourth.
