Daniel Connolly wins AGC Christmas Classic

MONTEREY, Calif. -- Daniel Connolly posted the competitive round of his life today.
The 16 year old from the Olympic Club shot 8-under 64 at Del Monte G.C. and was able to vault past the round one leaders and claim the 36 hole Christmas Classic by four strokes over Matt Williams of Chico. He posted 74-64=138, 6-under par for the tournament.
Connolly, who made it to the round of 32 in the USGA junior this past summer, topped a solid field of high school and college players. He also had the shot of the day -- if not the tournament, that honor goes to Terry Foreman with his Saturday ace on the tough 14th -- on the par four 15th hole when he slam dunked a 97 yard wedge for eagle two.
"My caddie, Jordan Cox, told me to hit it 3 yards past the flag and spin it back," said Connelly. "It was fun seeing it fly in."
Cox, a former Stanford golfer who now plays professional golf, helped Connolly dial in his putting alignment and wedge control before the round and it really paid off. The pair took advantage of the frost delay to head over to Rancho Canada golf club and hit balls off the grass tee prior to today's round.
Mark Miller of Antioch, the most decorated senior player on the Amateurgolf.com tour, posted 70 in the final round to win the Senior division at 3-over 147 while Terry Foreman, also of Antioch, was two shots back at 149.
Marc Sanders of Turlock shot net 70 in the final round two win the Net division at 148.
Our next event is the Tour Championship December 21 and 22 at Quail Lodge. We will accept early registrations through Monday morning. Don't miss it!
