Clouser takes Dixie Amateur lead
CORAL SPRINGS (Fl) – McCormick Clouser opened up a four-shot lead after the third round of the 83rd Men’s Dixie Amateur Saturday afternoon, shooting a six-under par 66 at Heron Bay Golf Club.
Three players, all from Florida, are tied for second, including the 2011 Dixie Amateur champion Curtis Thompson, who lives a couple of miles from this ClubLink facility. Thompson matched Clouser’s 66 while Jack Maguire from St. Petersburg (67) and Sam Horsfield of Davenport (69) are all at 208.
Second-round leader Chris Carlin of nearby Plantation is in a three-way tie for fifth after his third-round 74 put him at 210. M.J. Maguire, also from St. Petersburg had a 71 and Adam Condello from Pittsford, NY. (71) are also at 210.
In the inaugural Woodlands Winter Invitational being held at the Woodlands Country Club, Avondale, Az., resident Corey Knight holds a two-shot lead after the first round of the 36-hole event. Knight had the only round in the sixties, finishing with a three-under-par 69.
The only other players to beat par are tied for second at 71, including Nick Cortez, from Hoover, Al., Jonathan Echberg of Denmark, Derek Bard of New Hartford, NY., and Nelson Hargrove of Haverford, Pa.,
