San Diego Jr. Amateur: Aichinger leads
JAMUL, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2013) -- Pierce Aichinger of Englewood, Colo. fired a red-hot 5-under 66 and leads all players after Round 1 at the 7th annual San Diego Junior Amateur.
Run through the Future Champions Golf Tour, the San Diego Junior Amateur is a 54-hole stroke-play event at Steele Canyon GOlf Club is considered the West Coast's premier winter break junior golf championship. Past winners include University of Texas star Beau Hossler.
Aichinger's 66 is one shot better than Aaron Wise of Corona, Calif. and Peter Griffith of Westlake Village, Calif.
Tai Lin Song of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. and Corey Shawn of Encinitas, Calif. are both two shots back after shooting 68 in Round 1 to round out the top five players in the Boys 15-18 Division.
Ellen Takada of Irvine, Calif. shot 2-under 70 in the first round and leads Alyaa Abdulghany by a shot in the Girls 15-18 Division.
