Silicon Valley Am: Rare feat marks Round 1 action
MORGAN HILL, Calif. (Jan. 11, 2014) -- St. Mary's College golfers Cody Robinson and Mac Marr shot identical 2-under 70s and lead by a stroke after the first round of play at the 2014 amateurgolf.com Silicon Valley Amateur, presented by Callaway Golf.
Under chilly conditions at Coyote Creek, the two Gaels teammates lead by one over three players -- Andrew Romano, Scott Raber and Ryan Gronlund.
Marr and Rutgers golfer Jonathan Chang performed a rare feat very seldom seen on any tour, including the PGA Tour. On the 380-yard, par-4 12th, the two golfers made eagle on consecutive swings. Marr holed out from 115 yards using a gap wedge before Chang buried it from 105 yards out with a sand wedge.
In the Senior Division, Robert Goodwin leads after an even par 72. He sits two shots better than Steve Donnelly and Rich Rowley entering Sunday's final round.
The Net Division is a runaway by two veteran amateurgolf.com Tour competitors. Vincent Steele and Scott Carelli shot 4-under 68s to lead by nine shots over their closest pursuers.
Sunday looks to be anyone's game as the players should find the Nicklaus Tournament Course, as usual, a tough challenge.
