ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2014) – Brooke Henderson completed a wire-to-wire victory Saturday in the South Atlantic Amateur, shooting par 72 in chilly conditions at Oceanside Country Club to win by four strokes.
Henderson, 16, the reigning Canadian women's amateur champion from Smiths Falls, Ontario, had pulled away from the field midway through the final round before easing across the finish line, bogeying two of her final four holes for a 3-under 285 total.
Annabel Dimmock of Virginia Water, England, finished runner-up with a final-round 73 and 289 total.
Clara Teixeira of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Chloe Williams of Wrexham, Wales, tied for third at 297.
Meghan Stasi, a four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion, failed to duplicate her performance of a week earlier, when she had won the Harder Hall Women's Invitational. Stasi, 35, of Oakland Park, Fla., placed ninth at 303.
The Orange Blossom Tour continues next week with the Ione D. Jones/Doherty Championship at Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale.
