Northrop Grumman: Baylor jumps into lead
Annie Park
PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2014) -- USC is near where everyone thought they'd be at the end of the first round of action in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
It was Baylor that was the surprise.
The Bears, No. 60 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, fired a 2-over 286 to take a two-shot lead over the second-ranked Trojans at the par-71 Palos Verdes GC in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Louise Gateau-Chovelon led Baylor with a 3-under 68, sitting T-2 on the individual leaderboard, one behind USC's Annie Park. Baylor's Hadas Libman and Hayley Davis added even-par 71s.
There were only five players to break par on Sunday in southern California.
Top-ranked UCLA and No. 3 Duke are four back, with the Bruins getting two even-par 71s from Bronte Law and Alison Lee. Duke's Yu Liu is T-2 after a 3-under 68.
