Keith Decker
PALM CITY, Fla. (Feb. 16, 2014) – Keith
Decker and Christopher Reeves won for the
second time,
while Alan Fadel and Doug Lacrosse won by a
countdown Sunday in the 58th annual
International
Four-Ball Championship at The Fox Club.
Decker, of Martinsville, Va., and
Reeves of Jupiter, overhauled the first and
second round
leaders with a final round of 65 for 198. They
won the mid-amateur division here in 2010 at
195,
taking a seven-stroke lead into the final
round.
“We birdied four of the first seven
holes, got off to a good start on the back
nine,
too, and
never had a par putt longer that four or five
feet,” Reeves said. “The biggest difference
was at the
third hole (a par-4) when I made birdie (6-
iron to six feet) and they both hit their tee
shots into the
water.”
Jon Veneziano of Mount Dora and
Ryan Abbate of Fort Lauderdale had opened
with 64-65,
sharing the first round lead and leading
outright after two but they finished second
with 70 for 199.
Fadel, of Toledo, Ohio, and North
Palm Beach, and Lacrosse, of Tampa, were
playing as
partners for the third time in the senior
division. They were third in 2012, second last
year and won
by two shots Sunday on 63 the final round for
196.
Former golf teammates at the
University of South Florida, Fadel and
Lacrosse birdied five of
the first eight holes, then three of the first
five on the back, and never made bogey.
“Doug had a big
save on the final hole,” Fadel noted, hitting a
102-foot wedge to two feet for a comfortable
par putt.
Pat Tallent of Vienna, Va., and Rick
Woulfe of Fort Lauderdale, the 2012
champions, closed
with 65-198 for second place. Robert Morris
and Robert Vallis, the first and second round
leaders,
shot 72-203, falling off the prize list.
In the Legends Division for players 65
and older, the winners Saturday were Ron
Waeghe of
Greensboro, Ga., and Tom Blank of Rochester,
N.Y., with a 36-hole total of 140.
There were 30 mid-amateur teams,
25-54 years; 27 seniors, 55-64; and eight in
the legends
flight.
