NAPLES, Fla. (April 4, 2014) -- Bill Williamson, the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up, shot a 5-under 67 and leads all players after the first round of play at the 2014 Terra Cotta Invitational at Naples National Golf Club.
The Cincinnati, Ohio resident is one up on rising junior Andreas Halvorsen of Norway and a loaded field at the national invitational.
Williamson was perfect on the day, recording five birdies throughout his trek around the 6,977-yard track and no bogeys.
Halvorsen shot 4-under 68 just two weeks after winning the Florida Azalea title. He made three bogeys but countered with seven birdies, including five on his front nine.
U.S. Junior runner up Riley Davis of Mississippi and Joe Alfieri of Lutz, Fla. both shot 3-under 69 and are tied for third place.
The Terra Cotta features a loaded field of highly-ranked juniors, collegiate stars and competitive mid-amateurs.
University of Oklahoma commit Brad Dalke is tied for fifth place after a 1-under 71. Reigning U.S. Junior champ Scottie Scheffler is tied for ninth.
Texas A&M signee Cameron Champ is tied for 15th while New Year's Invitational winner and recent University of Florida commit Sam Horsfield struggled to a 5-over 77 and is tied for 35th.
Notable mid-amateurs include: Tim Jackson of Germantown, Tenn. (74, T15), Frank Vana of Massachusetts (76, T27) and Gene Elliot (77, T35).
For the college ranks, Edward Figueroa of nearby Florida Gulf Coast University, is tied for 13th (1-over) while Eli Cole of Texas is tied for 15th.
