Clark County (Nevada) Am: Andrew Chu by 3
BOULDER CITY, Nevada (April 6, 2014) -- Brady Exber can still play with the youngsters. But after ending the first round tied with Foothill High School golfer Andrew Chu, he ran into a run of birdies that was tough to match.
Chu started the final round like a (young) man on a mission - going birdie-eagle to get to 3-under in a hurry. The rest of his round was like a roller coaster as he posted 4 more birdies against 6 bogeys. The key, however, is that none of those bogeys was any worse; giving up a shot isn't too bad when you make birdies on holes 1, 5, 9, 12, and 17. (And let's not forget the eagle 3 on the par-5 second hole.)
As for Exber, the past champion of both the SNGA and Nevada State Amateur titles (and contestant in many USGA events) continues to a force on the national mid-amateur and senior circuits. He chose to enter the main event as opposed to the Clark County Senior held two days prior.
Chu's two days were 72-71 = 143 while Exber finished at 72-74=146.
Derek Castillo grabbed solo third with a birdie-par-par finish for a final round 73 that placed him at 149, ahead of a pair of players.
