Mississippi Old Waverly Inv: Steve Wilson leads
Steve Wilson
West Point, MS (April 12, 2014) - Steve Wilson, of Ocean Springs, came out hot in the second round at Old Waverly. As the 2009 US Mid Amateur Champion, Wilson was invited to play in the Masters. Being that the invitational falls on the same weekend, Wilson is sure to have some wonderful memories. Wilson fired a 69 in the second round pulling him ahead on the leaderboard by one stroke at four-under.
Rickey Riley sits one behind in the championship flight at three-under total and Richard Reed is in third at two-under.
In the Senior Division, Robert Sanford remains in the lead after his one-under, 71. Sanford has two strokes on Barry Stafford who is one-over par.
Super Senior competitor, Mike Thompson, has found his game. Thompson, of Tupelo, posted a 68 to pull to the lead and put him at even par for the tournament. Ed Barnett has played consistently well and shot even par for the second round of play.
Thanks to the entire Old Waverly staff for a great invitational.
Superintendent, Brad Suggs, has prepared a challenging course for the amateur field. Chris Jester and Greg Flannagan prepared a great invitational once again. The field size has grown from the 2013 field and the number in the super senior field has doubled. Remember to follow us tomorrow to see how the invitational finishes.
