SCGA Mid-Am: Hogarth in familiar position
VALENCIA, Calif. (April 14, 2014) -- Tim Hogarth found himself in a familiar position in the first round of the 2014 Southern California Mid-Amateur Championship.
The five-time champion is near the top of the leaderboard.
Hogarth shot rounds of 70-74 on the first day of play -- 36 grueling holes at Valencia Country Club -- and was tied for the lead alongside Ramie Sprinkling at press time.
Sprinkling shot 76 in the first round but was 4-under in his second 18 through 12 holes. AmateurGolf.com will provide full final results from the first day of action as soon as play completes.
Scot McGihon shot 75-71 and sits two back of Hogarth while Dan Sullivan, defending champion Robert Funk and Ken Cruz sit at 3-over.
The SCGA Mid-Amateur is a 54-hole championship played over two days. Following the completion of Rounds 1 and 2, the field will be cut to the low 40 and ties.

SCGA Mid-Amateur
The SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship is open to
members ages 25 and older with a Handicap Index
of 5.4 and below. Competitors undergo 18 holes of
qualifying play in order to reach the final field of 84
players. In the Championship, players compete over
54 holes of stroke play with the top 42 players and
ties advancing after 36 holes to the final round.
