Junior Invitational: Scheffler tops Champ
GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (April 26, 2014) -- Reigning U.S. Junior champion Scottie Scheffler added another major victory to his growing resume Saturday by shooting a final-round 71 to win the 2014 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley.
In what is widely considered the top junior tournament in the nation, Scheffler outlasted Cameron Champ by a shot to prevail.
Scheffler entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Vanderbilt-bound Theo Humphrey but it was Champ that surged to give Scheffler his toughest competition down the stretch. The Texas A&M commit nearly pulled it off, recording a birdie and eagle on successive holes late in the round.
Scheffler, however, remained consistent. He birdied three straight on the front nine before birdieing Nos. 13 and 15. He went into Sage Valley's final three holes tied with Champ.
Scheffler went on to par the 18th while Champ scrambled for a bogey.
Oklahoma commit Brad Dalke finished alone in third place.
