Update No. 3: 4:58 p.m. EDT
California is the biggest name outside the top 15 that will head out for a shotgun start of the third, and final, stroke-play round. Cal is five shots back of the coveted eighth spot. But, the Golden Bears might have an obstacle . . .
From Lance Ringler: Unlikely any of the teams this afternoon can post a number that could get them into top eight with wind picking up here at Prairie Dunes...

Update No. 2: 3:29 p.m. EDT
There's some conditional drama around 15th place. With the adjustments to the schedule that bad weather has forced, an inability for teams 16-30 to finish the third round with enough time for the top of the field to finish would result, effectively, in a 36-hole cut – and the eight match-play contestants would be chosen from the top 15. With that in mind, Texas wraps up its second round with a par by Beau Hossler and is 7 over at T-14. Still on the course are Georgia State at 12 over, with Kentucky and Missouri at 13 over.

Update No. 1: 2:36 p.m. EDT
Stanford's lead, which it established at 12 under in completing second-round play late Saturday, has remained safe during the conclusion of the second round early Sunday. South Carolina had the best chance to make a move, starting its play T-2 and four shots back, but is 9 over as the Gamecocks come down the stretch. Oklahoma has slipped from 7 under to even par and is done with its round. And SMU has slipped from 5 under to 1 under as it comes down the stretch.
ABOUT THE
NCAA Division I Championship
The NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship is the pinnacle of collegiate golf in the United States, held annually in late May or early June. The event brings together the nation's top 30 teams and six individual qualifiers, all of whom have advanced through a grueling regional qualifying process. Conference champions earn automatic regional berths, while a selection committee fills the remaining spots.
The championship begins with 72 holes of stroke play to determine the individual national champion. Following this, the top 8 teams advance to a match play bracket to compete for the team title — a format introduced in 2009 that added a dramatic head-to-head element to the final days of competition.
Some of the most decorated names in professional golf have competed in this event, including Jack Nicklaus, Hale Irwin, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson. Winning the individual title now includes an added bonus: the champion receives an invitation to the following year’s Masters Tournament, provided they maintain amateur status.
The tournament dates back to 1897, originally run by the National Intercollegiate Golf Association. The NCAA began officially sponsoring the event in 1939. Over time, the championship has become not just a collegiate milestone, but also a launching pad for future PGA Tour stars.
After 72 holes of stroke play, the individual champion is crowned, and the low 8 teams advance to match play to determine the team champion.
