Sunnehanna: Smith, Reach, Danielson share lead

JOHNSTOWN, Penn. (June 12, 2014) -- Nathan Smith, Charlie Danielson and Nicholas Reach share the lead after two rounds of play at the 2014 Sunnehanna Amateur at Sunnehanna Country Club.

Reach, a rising golfer from the University of Georgia, fired a 1-under 69 on Thursday while Danielson, who plays at the University of Illinois, shot 2-under 68.

Smith, of course, is the four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion and a two-time U.S. Walker Cup team member. He shot 3-under 67 to climb the leaderboard and take a share of the lead.

The trio sits on a share of the 36-hole lead entering Saturday's third of four rounds.

First-round co-leader Sam Burns sits tied for fourth place. He shot a 1-over 71 on Thursday and is now part of a trio one shot back. Rising junior Doug Ghim of Illinois and recent Azalea Invitational champ Will Murphy of South Carolina, also sit tied for fourth place.

Georgia's Michael Cromie, a teammate of Reach, was tied for the lead after Round 1 but struggled to a 6-over 76 on Thursday. he fell to a 25th-place tie.

Three more players, including Texas' Kramer Hickock, are two shots off the lead while eight more are just three back. All told, there are 14 players inside of three shots of the lead shared by three golfers entering Friday's action.

Defending champion Steven Ihm of Iowa fell to a tie for 10th place. He opened with a 66 on Wednesday but shot 72 in Round 2.
