Sunnehanna Amateur: Reach leads after rain-altered Day 3
JOHNSTOWN, Penn. (June 13, 2014) -- Rainy weather wreaked havoc on the field Friday at the 2014 Sunnehanna Amateur, forcing the completion of Round 3 to be moved to Saturday morning.

Less than half the field completed Round 3 with the leaders needing to complete the bulk of their third rounds before the 54-hole cut is made and final-round action can commence at Sunnehanna Country Club Saturday.

Atop the leaderboard part of the way through Round 3 is Nicholas Reach. The Georgia Bulldog entered the day at 5-under and is already 3-under on his third round through three holes. At 8-under for the tournament, he holds a four-shot advantage.

Sam Burns, an Oklahoma commit, rising junior Doug Ghim, South Carolina's Will Murphy and Charlie Danielson are all at 4-under, with golf left to play on the outward nine when play was ultimately stopped for th day

Nathan Smith, who held a share of the overnight lead along with Danielson and Reach, is 2-over through three holes in Round 2. Smith, of course, is a four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion and two-time U.S. Walker Cup team member.

Third-round play will begin at 8 a.m. with the start of the final round at 9:30. For a full look at the current leaderboard, follow the link below.

ABOUT THE Sunnehanna Amateur

First played in July 1954, the Sunnehanna Amateur holds a distinguished place in golf history as the first country club-sponsored 72-hole medal (stroke) play event for amateurs in the United States. Its groundbreaking format helped set the standard for elite amateur competition and has since inspired numerous high-level tournaments across the country.

Hosted at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the event is played on a classic 1921 A.W. Tillinghast design—a quintessential golden-age layout known for its strategic shot values, rolling terrain, and challenging greens. The course itself is as much a draw as the championship, offering a pure test of golf that showcases the talent of rising amateur stars.

With its rich tradition, elite fields, and iconic venue, the Sunnehanna Amateur remains one of the premier proving grounds for future professionals. Its alumni list includes many who have gone on to successful PGA Tour careers, making it a must-watch event on the amateur calendar, and one of the best tournaments to kick off a competitive summer in amateur golf.
