Texas State Amateur: Nolen shoots 66, leads by 3
Stratton Nolen
DALLAS, Tx. (June 13, 2014) -- Stratton Nolen of Austin fired a second-round 66 to take the 36-hole lead at the 105th Texas Amateur Championship at historic Brook Hollow Golf Club.
Nolen was two shots back after a first-round 69 but stormed back for the day's best round on Friday. He'll start Saturday's third round up by three shots over Andrew Presley and the lead.
Presley shot 68 on Friday to move to second place.
Andrew Ertel, Mason Greenberg and Will Zalatoris are tied for third place and sit four shots back of Nolen's pace.
Nolen is the reigning State Public Links champion.
"My game is in a really good place,” Nolen told the Texas State Golf Association. "Sitting out a year at Oklahoma State isn’t something I wanted to do at first, but I’ve realized it was the best thing. I’ve been able to work on my game and not worry about playing in tournaments. It really helped me mature and realize that I can be a lot better.”
