Seth Reeves takes early lead at The Dogwood
Seth Reeves
ATLANTA, Ga. (June 25, 2014) -- Georgia Tech star Seth Reeves fired a 7-under 65 to take the first-round lead at the 2014 Dogwood Invitational.
At Druid Hills Golf Club, Reeves, who tied for third last week at the prestigious Northeast Amateur, continued his stellar play with a round that featured seven birdies and an eagle three on the par-5 ninth hole.
Reeves enters Round 2 of the 72-hole event with a one-shot lead over Robert Mize and Zachary Healy, who both shot 6-under 66.
Mize plays his college golf at Columbus State while Healy is set to begin his career at the University of Georgia in the fall.
Eric Hallberg, the son of Champions Tour player Gary Hallberg, shot 5-under 67 and sits tied with four others, including Anders Albertson, a teammate of Reeves at Georgia Tech.
Eight more players are just one more shot back after Round 1, including J.T. Poston, Jimmy Beck and Davin White.
All told, there are 15 players within three shots of the lead and another eight just four shots back.
Michael Johnson, the defending champion, who went 28-under to win, shot 4-over 76 in Round 1.
