BIRMINGHAM, ALA – LSU rising senior Stewart Jolly has been selected as the Southern Golf Association’s National Amateur of the Month Award for June after winning the Northeast Amateur, one of the top events on the summer amateur circuit.

  • April 2014: Ollie Schniederjans, Georgia Tech | More
  • May 2014: Cameron Wilson, Stanford | More

Jolly won the Northeast as the only competitor to finish under par on the par-69 Wannamoisett CC course in Rhode Island. His 274 total was two shots ahead of Oklahoma State star Jordan Neibrugge and three ahead of Texas teen phenom Scottie Scheffler in a strong field of nationally-ranked amateurs.

Jolly, from Birmingham, led LSU to the NCAA final four of the match play a month earlier. He made All-SEC , 3rd team All-America and earned a spot on the U.S. Palmer Cup team that lost to Europe.

Previous winners of the March-October award this year were Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers, Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans and NCAA championship medalist Cameron Wilson. The national selection panel consists of notable golf journalists, officials and coaches. The coveted award, now in its 12th year, is one of many ways the SGA promotes and advances amateur golf, including its storied Southern Amateur, the 108th playing set for later this month at the exclusive Honors Course near Chattanooga.
