Monterey City: Decker, Boyns take titles

MONTEREY, Calif. (July 7, 2014) -- Michael Decker accumulated a record-setting 14-under par total in winning the 65th annual Monterey City Amateur Championship by eight shots at Del Monte Golf Course.
Decker, who plays at Vanderbilt, carded rounds of 69-65-68 to prevail over a solid field.
Nick Moore shot rounds of 69-72-69 to finish alone in second but eight shots off the impressive pace set by Decker.
Regina De Guzman carded rounds of 74-68-72 to take solo third.
Casey Boyns prevailed in the senior championship, firing rounds of 74-69, to win by five shots.
Boyns also finished inside the Top 10 in the Championship Flight.
Scott Anderson shot 72-76 to take second place, finishing one shot up on Jim Knoll (76-73).

Championship- 54-hole stroke-play competition,
36-hole cut to low half of field and ties
Net Flight- 54-hole stroke-play competition,
36-hole cut to low half of field and ties
Senior Flight- 36-hole competition,
NO CUT (Played on the first two days)
Super Senior Flight- 36-hole competition,
NO CUT (Played on the first two days).
Championship flight is limited to players with
a USGA index of 3.0 or better. All players that have a
higher
index must compete in the Net division. Players ages
50+
with a handicap index of 6.8 or lower are eligible for
the
Senior division. Super Senior division is ages 65+
with the
same index restrictions.
