U.S. Amateur qualifying has begun at
numerous sites across the United
States.
Scheduled for Aug. 11-17 at Atlanta Athletic
Club, the U.S. Amateur
will bring together the finest field of any
amateur event as the world's
best rising stars hope to put their name
next to the likes of Francis
Ouimet, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger
Woods and so many
others on the Havemeyer Trophy.

qualifying for the 2014 U.S.
Amateur

key players that earned entry into the field

TUESDAY, JULY 22
DUBOIS, PA. - TREASURE LAKE (SILVER
COURSE)
Fresh off his win with brother David at the
Baltusrol Invitational, Pennsylvania's Ronald
Denunzio earned medalist honors at the
Treasure Lake quaLifier. Denunzio beat Sean
Knapp by two shots as the two were the lone
players to move on to the U.S. Amateur.

AMEILA ISLAND, FLA. - AMELIA NATIONAL
GOLF CLUB
When you're hot, you're hot. And M.J. Maguire
hopes that his play stays that way throughout
championship proper.
Fresh off his win at the Southern Amateur,
Maguire, tied for medalist honors and took one
of three positions available at the Amelia Island
qualifier.
The University of North Florida star joined
Travis Williamson and Scott Wolfes as those
advancing.

ORLANDO, FLA. - RITZ-CARLTON GOLF CLUB -
ORLANDO
Thad Hudgens, Jacob Joiner and Parker Jones
all tied for medalist honors and will move on
past the Orlando qualifier. The trio all totaled
139 for the 36-hole qualifier while Florida
State's Hank Lebioda and Jacob Huizinga will
serve as the first and second alternates,
respectively.
TARPON SPRINGS, FLA. - CYPRESS RUN GOLF
CLUB
University of Georgia star Lee McCoy continued
his solid play by medaling at the Tarpon
Springs qualifier. He topped Joaquin Lolas by
four shots while Edward Figueroa and Daniel
Debra claimed alternate positions.
MONDAY, JULY 21

FT. COLLINS, COLO. - FORT COLLINS COUNTRY
CLUB
Following his impressive run to the semifinal
round at the U.S. Amateur Public Links
Championship, Michael Gellerman became one
of three players to advance past the Fort
Collins qualifier. Gellerman, who plays at
Oklahoma, finished three shots off the pace
set by medalist Victor Perez.
Wyndham Clark, who plays at Oklahoma State,
took the third and final qualifying berth.

MISSION VIEJO, CALIF. - MISSION VIEJO
COUNTRY CLUB
The summer of Rico Hoey continues. After a
stellar freshman season at USC, Hoey went to
the Palmer Cup. Most recently, he tied for
medalist honors at the U.S. Public Links
Championship and made a run to the
quarterfinals.
On Monday, he was among three playes to
move past the Mission Viejo qualifier. He tied
for second place behind Anaheim's Travis
Russell.
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - BENVENUE COUNTRY
CLUB
South Carolina's Caleb Sturgeon won by four
shots at the Rocky Mount qualifier and earned
his spot in the U.S. Amateur. Sturgeon totaled
131 in the 36-hole qualifier and finished ahead
of Patrick Cover and five ahead of Clemson's
Thomas Bradshaw.
SAN JOSE, CALIF. - ALMADEN COUNTRY CLUB
UC Davis golfer Luke Vivolo won medalist
honors at the San Jose qualifier and did so
with authority. He totaled 133 for the 36-hole
qualifier and cleared the nearest competitor by
an impressive seven shots. Matt Pinizzotto and
Jonathan Garrick also moved onto the U.S.
Amateur from the San Jose qualifier.
FRIDAY, JULY 18
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - KEITH HILLS COUNTRY
CLUB
Josh Martin totaled 139 and took medalist
honors at the Buies Creek qualifiers. Martin, a
UNC commit who recently became the
youngest player to win the North Carolina
Amateur, topped Patrick Stephenson and
Harrison Rhoades for honors as all three moved
on to the U.S. Amateur next month.
Two hot players -- Andreas Halvorsen of
Norway and Carter Jenkins, who recently won
his second straight Carolinas Amateur -- took
alternate positions out of the qualifier.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16
ELVERSON, PA. - STONEWALL LINKS
University of Hartford's
Will Betts and Stocker Cup
champion
John Sawin punched their
U.S. Amateur tickets on Wednesday by tying
for medalist honors at Stonewall. The players
shot three-under 137 on the Old and North
courses.
Christopher Crawford, Henry Shrimp, Isaiah
Logue, and David Denlinger earned the other
spots in the 136-man field. Denlinger took the
last spot in the qualifier after winning a three-
hole playoff over Oliver White.
ATLANTA, GA. - PIEDMONT DRIVING CLUB
Chris Waters went deep at Piedmont, posting
scores of 65-67 for a 10-under 132 total for
medalist honors. Joe Lewis, Zach Healy, Zack
Jaworski, and David Kleckner all shot six-under
or better to take the other four available
spots.
The Piedmont Driving Club qualifier is the
closest of all qualifying sites to championship
host course Atlanta Athletic Club.
PHOENIX, ARIZ. - MOON VALLEY COUNTRY
CLUB
R.J. Wood, Zach Wright, and Michael Anderson
filled out the three spots available at Moon
Valley. Wood took medalist honors with a two
round total of 135, while Wright was close
behind at 137. Anderson had a more difficult
road, going into a playoff at 140 and coming
out on top.
NICEVILLE, FLA. - ROCKY BAYOU C.C.
Eli Hendricks and Tolver Dozier were co-
medalists and took the only two qualifying
spots available. Hendricks shot 71-66 while
Dolzier fired 67-70.
HOLLYWOOD, FLA. - THE CLUB AT EMERALD
HILLS
Donald Wolfe III and TJ Shuart earned the two
openings for the Am at Emerald Hills. Wolfe
medaled by two strokes with a 70-72=142
total, while Shuart won a playoff over Jordan
Gumberg, the first alternate out of the site.
MANSFIELD (TX), TEXAS - WALNUT CREEK
COUNTRY CLUB
Corbin Kasten, Benjamin Baxter, and Brandon
Smith make up the three qualifiers out of
Walnut Creek. Texas Tech’s Kasten, was
medalist with a 68-70=138 total. He made nine
birdies on the day. Incoming SMU freshman
Baxter, shot one-under 139 for his spot, while
high schooler Brandon Smith earned the final
spot with an an even-par total for the day.
The young Smith showed serious guts by
beating out Luke Neely and Greg Yates in a
playoff for the final spot.
MADISON (MS), MISS. - ANNANDALE GOLF
CLUB
Grant Motter and Kevin Brady survived a
grinder of a day at Annandale. Motter won
medalist by two strokes with a two-round 138,
while Brady made it into the national
championship by a stroke with a two-round
140.
TUESDAY, JULY 15
NORMAN, OKLA. - JIMMIE AUSTIN OU GOLF
CLUB
Using his vast course knowledge gained as a
member of the Oklahoma golf team, Max
McGreevy shot a 132 36-hole score to take
medalist honors at the OU Course.
The Sooners' total was three shot better than
Tulsa's Logan McCracken, who was the other
golfer to advance out of the qualifier.
OCALA, FLA. - OCALA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
Taylor Funk, the son of PGA Tour champion
Fred Funk, tied for the top spot at the Ocala
National qualifier and took one of just two
available spots. He'll move on along with
Matthew Mullarkey while longtime Florida mid-
am Joe Alfieri was on the outside looking in
after tying the two qualifiers after the 36-
holes of play.
LINCOLN (RI), R.I. - KIRKBRAE COUNTRY CLUB
Bobby Leopold continued his run after winning
the Rhode Island state amateur by taking the
second qualifying position at the Kirkbrae
Country Club qualifier.
Leopold, who made headlines by shocking his
way deep into match play at the 2011 U.S.
Amateur, finished a shot behind medalist Kyle
Hoffman.
YORK (ME), MAINE - THE LEDGES GOLF CLUB
Rising University of Virginia commit Austen
Truslow won medalist honors at the Ledges
Golf Club in York, Maine. He shot 137
throughout the event's two rounds to top
Massachusetts' Patrick Frodigh.
ALEXANDRIA, LA. - LINKS ON THE BAYOU
LSU commit Sam Burns tied for top honors and
was one of just two players to move on to the
U.S. Amateur at the Alexandria, La. qualifier
along with Texas' Brax McCarthy.
McCarthy recently wrapped up his junior
season for the Longhorns.
MONDAY, JULY 14
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH. - OAKLAND HILLS
COUNTRY CLUB (NORTH COURSE)
Will Zalatoris is on a roll. After winning the
Texas Amateur, he turned around and won on
a national level at the Trans-Miss Amateur.
Now, he's off to the U.S. Amateur after
qualifying at Oakland Hills CC.
Zalatoris took the third and final qualifying
berth at the competitive qualifier after tying
Patrick Colburn of Michigan State. Both players
were a shot back of Joseph Kremer, who took
medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 140.
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. - TRUMP NATIONAL
GOLF CLUB - WESTCHESTER
A who's who of the top players from the
northeast took aim at the Briarcliff Manor
qualifier and former SMU golfer Max Buckley,
Greg Reilly of Div. II Eckerd and Hartford's Evan
Russell all earned berths.
Russell will soon hope to defend his New
England Amateur title and recently won a
second straight Vermont State Amateur
championship.
DECATUR, ALA. - BURNINGTREE COUNTRY
CLUB
Stewart Whitt and
Patrick Christovich
tied for medalist honors at the Burningtree
qualifier and took two of the site's three U.S.
Amateur berths Monday.
Whitt carded a second-round 67 to follow a
morning 74 and notch a tie for the top
qualifying position along with Christovich, who
shot 69-72 to move on.
Christovich, of course, is a long time force on
the national mid-amateur stage and member of
AmateurGolf.com. He won the Coleman
Invitational earlier this season before helping
the U.S. win the inaugural Concession Cup.
Ben Wolcott shot 70-72 to finish a shot behind
the co-medalists and secure teh third and final
qualifying berth.
NEW CASTLE, PENN. - NEW CASTLE COUNTRY
CLUB
Elliot Whitley of Canada joined Luke Miller and
Alex Andrews as those advancing past the
New Castle CC qualifier. Whitley secured
medalist honors with rounds of 69-68 while
Miller (72-68) and Andrews (74-66) beat out
first alternate Erik Bertrand by a shot.
THURSDAY, JUNE 10
CEDAR SPRINGS, MICH. - CEDAR CHASE GOLF
CLUB
Recent Rice Planters champion
Rigel Fernandes of
the University of South Florida earned medalist
honors at Cedar Chase. His 36-hole total of
137 was good enough for a two-shot victory
over Andrew Chapman.
The two players were the only two to move on
to Championship Proper from qualifier.
WINTER GARDEN, FLA. - ORANGE COUNTY
NATIONAL GOLF CENTER & LODGE (PANTHER
LAKE COURSE)
Rising University of Florida commit
Sam Horsfield took
medalist at the Orange County National
qualifier, topping Joey Petronio by a shot.
Horsfield was one of three to move on at the
qualifier, joining Petronio and Drogosch, and
hopes to build on his impressive resume next
month with a strong showing at the U.S.
Amateur.
TUESDAY, JULY 8
BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - COLUMBIA COUNTRY
CLUB
Many of the top golfers in the state of
South Carolina were on hand
Tuesday for the Columbia Country Club
qualifier and the cream sure
did rise to the top as five berths to the U.S.
Amateur were awarded.
Rising University of South Carolina golfer
Matthew Nessmith
shot 66-
64 to win medalist honors by three shots
over teammate
Will Murphy.
Murphy, who has won two prestigious
amateur events this year at the
Azalea Invitational and Sunnehanna
Amateur, shot 68-65 to take the
second qualifying position for Atlanta
Athletic Club.
Louisville's J.D. Lehman, Trevor Philips and
Vanderbilt's
Ben Fogler
tied for the final three qualifying spots.
BERNARDSTON, MASS. - CRUMPIN-FOX
CLUB
Ryan Riley and Chris Houston tied for
medalist
honors at the rugged Crumpin-Fox Club to
take
two of three qualifying berths available.
Riley went 77-70 while Houston turned in
rounds of 73-74 to share top honors. Peter
French shot 76-72 to take the final berth
out
of the qualifier.
HYDE PARK, MASS. - GEORGE WRIGHT GOLF
COURSE
Alex Jeffers, Ryan Harris and Zachary
Munroe
all moved past the qualifier at historic Donald
Ross-designed George Wright Golf Course.
Jeffers (72-67) and Harris (70-69) both tied
for
medalist honors while Munroe, who plays at
the College of Charleston, carded rounds of
67-73 to take the final qualifying spot.
MONDAY, JULY 7
CHICO, CALIF. - BUTTE CREEK COUNTRY
CLUB
New Mexico golfer
Andrej Bevins
secured
one of two spots available in
Chico with a five-shot victory over the field
and second place finisher
Tyler Collier.
A highly-touted freshman for the Lobos this
past season, Bevins
played in 11 tournaments and was part of
the roster that won New
Mexico the MW Championship in Tucson.
Collier, who took the second and final
qualifying berth, will begin his
collegiate career at Oregon State in
September.
GLEN ALLEN, VA. - THE FEDERAL CLUB
Talented mid-amateur
Garrett Rank of
Canada tied for medalist honors
at the Federal Club, earning a berth into the
U.S. Amateur. Rank was
the runner up at the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur
and has played well of
late, contending at the Monroe Invitational
last month.
Zach Seabolt of Winthrop and Davis
Womble of Wake Forest clinched
the other two berths available at the Glen
Allen, Virg. qualifier.
HAMILTON, N.Y. - SEVEN OAKS GOLF
COURSE
Derek Bard, a rising University of Virginia
golfer, edged Maryland's
Victor Fox to take medalist honors at the
Hamilton, N.Y. qualifier.
Bard totaled 141 for the 36-hole qualifier
but Fox snuck into
championship proper edging alternates John
Clare and Danny Yustin.
KELLER, TEXAS - SKY CREEK RANCH GOLF
CLUB
Derek Oland of McKinney, Texas edged
rising TCU star
Eli Cole for the
top spot at Sky Creek's qualifier Monday.
Oland, who plays at
Midwestern State, carded a 136 36-hole
total. It was one shot better
than Cole's.
Andrew Hans secured the third and final
qualifying berth, edging out
alternates Michael Lohner and Bradley
Phelps.
MORAVIA, IOWA - THE PRESERVE ON
RATHBUN LAKE
Butler Melnyk, a former University of
Georgia golfer, bested the field
at the Moravia, Iowa qualifier Monday. He
finished tied atop the
leaderboard with Aaron Wilkin of Australia
before winning the site's
lone berth in a playoff.
Melnyk's father Steve is a legendary
amateur golfer and won the 1969
U.S. Amateur before pursuing a professional
career.
SEAL BEACH, CALIF. - OLD RANCH
COUNTRY CLUB
UNLV commit and highly-ranked junior
Derek Castillo earned medalist
honors at the Old Ranch Country Club
qualifier on Monday. The Yorba
Linda, Calif. resident bested Tyler Torano
(Marymount) and Nick
Swanson but all three earned qualifying
berths.
Lyon Lazare, the 2014 World Amateur Gross
Champion, is the first
alternate after missing the final qualifying
berth by a shot.
