PULLMAN, Wash. (July 9, 2014) -- And then there were eight...

The quarterfinals are set at the 2014 Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship as the remaining eight players punched their tickets with two wins apiece on a busy day at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

No. 49 Derek Bayley and No. 25 Derek Hatch survived the Rounds of 32 and 16 Wednesday, setting up a quarterfinal match Thursday at 7:30 a.m.

Bayley knocked off Clay Christensen 3 and 2 in the morning round before defeating Tye Gabriel 5 and 4 in the Round of 16. Gabriel had previously upset top-seed and stroke-play qualifying medalist Dale Brandt-Richards of Australia.

Hatch, meanwhile, defeated No. 8 Greg Gildea and No. 9 Jesse Heinly to move on.

No. 4 Cole Madey remains among the highest qualifying seeds left in the action. He beat Spencer Weiss and brother Clayton during his busy day Wednesday.

He'll face No. 28 Charles Kern, who beat No. 5 Tom Swanson and No. 44 Will Brink to move on.

In the third quarterfinal, No. 2 Hans Reimers will face Dylan Wu, the seventh seed. Reimers, a rising amateur on the national scene, beat Jarrett Foote 2 and 1 after knocking off Michael Butler 3 and 2.

In the final match in the Round of 8, No. 14 James Beale beat Tyler Salsbury and Cory Crawford to move on where he'll face No. 6 Conner Kumpula Wednesday. Kumpula advanced with wins over Joseph Harvie and Jordan Weir on Wednesday.

Following Thursday morning's quarterfinal matches, the semifinal round will be played ahead of the 36-hole championship round match scheduled for Friday.

ABOUT THE PNGA Amateur

First held in 1899, the Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur is one of the country’s longest running amateur championships. Held annually at world-class courses throughout the Pacific Northwest, this championship is played in the same format as the U.S. Amateur and features an impressive list of past champions that include; Nick Flanagan, Ben Crane, Jeff Quinney, Bill Sander, and Tiger Woods. Eligibility is open to members of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and top amateurs throughout the world invited via Presidential Invitation. Each year’s champion earns a hosted exemption in to the Pacific Coast Amateur and Sahalee Players Championship.

The Championship will be conducted in two stages:

Stroke Play – All players must complete the 36-hole stroke play qualifying in order to determine the 64 players who will advance to match play. In the event of a tie for the final qualifying spot(s), a sudden- death playoff will be used to determine the qualifiers. In the event of a tie for the Qualifying Medalist, a sudden-death playoff will commence.

Match Play – The General Numerical Draw will be in effect. Single elimination match play. 36-hole Championship Final Match. All other matches are 18 holes.
