Jeff Wilson

EDMOND, Okla. (July 10, 2014) --
Only two amateur players will play the weekend at the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National.
Jeff Wilson, of Fairfield, Calif., and Mike McCoy, of West Des Moines, Iowa, are the two left standing, as they finished under the seven-over 147 cut line on Friday that sent 15 amateurs packing.
Wilson, the 2010 U.S. Amateur medalist, posted rounds of 70-76 for a four-over 146 total, good for a tie for 33rd. He sits ten shots back of current leader Colin Montgomerie.
Friday’s round went a little rougher than the first round one-under 70, as Wilson peppered three birdies between six bogeys and a double. Regardless, he’s through to Saturday and Sunday, and will look to contend for low amateur honors.
He will be squaring off against Mike McCoy, the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion, who shot consecutive 74s and made the cut by a stroke.
McCoy’s second round started off well, as he shot even on his first nine, the back, but doubled his tenth hole of the day to fall back. He rebounded with a birdie the next hole, but bogeyed four and five to end up at three-over for the day and six-over for the tournament. McCoy is 12 back of Montgomerie.
