Kentucky Open: Musselman wins low amateur honors
by Golf House Kentucky
PROSPECT, Kent. (July 17, 2014) -- The best golfer in Kentucky, Rick Cochran III of Paducah, has not been in town much this year. He has been working his way onto the Web.com Tour by playing events in Latin America and has been playing extremely well – as he is currently second on their money list and has had multiple Runner Up finishes.
Maybe absence from the scene is why Cochran came into the 95th Kentucky Open at Hunting Creek Country Club relatively under the radar. It is hard to fathom that a Defending Champion could be under the radar!
Cochran played to impress in the final round, finishing with a round of five-under-par 67 and successfully held off PGA Professional, Jared Wolfe of Louisville – who battled Cochran all day long.
There was a point early on the back nine when the two players were tied at ten-under-par but Cochran was able to finish at 12-under-par 204 and Wolfe was Runner Up at eight-under-par 208.
The Low Amateur of the Championship was University of Kentucky golfer, Cooper Musselman of Louisville. Musselman shot a final round 76 to finish at one-under-par for the tournament.
Equally impressive was a record round by Robert Damron of Pikeville. Damron, a former PGA Tour standout, shot a final round 65 to finish in third at six-under par. That 65 is a course record, since the greens were renovated in 2011. Prior to that, Ken Venturi held the course record with a round of 64.
A very heartfelt thank you to the Staff, Membership, Leadership and Maintenance Staff at Hunting Creek Country Club – who were all fantastic. We look forward to an equally great event next year at Champion Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville.
