Busse wins Industry Hills City by one
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. (July 27, 2014) — Santiago Canyon College golfer Byron Busse, a native of Fullerton, Calif., captured the Industry Hills City Championship on Sunday by a single stroke.
The final group started Sunday with three shots between them. Busse shot 74 on a brutal final day where the "The Ike" course at Industry Hills Golf Club was playing every bit of it's 7,300-yard length. His par on the final hole secured a one-stroke victory over Fresno State golfer Keenan Nelson, who shot 78 on Sunday.
By the 16th hole, the final group were covered by a single stroke but Busse held his nerve, completing a three-stroke comeback and almost holing an eagle three on the tough 650-yard par five when his approach shot pitched just past the flag and spun back, narrowly missing the hole.
Also tying for second place with Nelson were first-round leader Marc Reyes and Neil Hand. Reyes, and Orange Coast College player, shot 66 in the first round, only to watch his lead slip after a 78 and 75 in the final two rounds. Hand, who will be a senior next season at California Baptist University, shot 69-74-76.
