REDMOND, Ore. (August 3, 2014) – Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.) completed a wire-to-wire victory on Sunday to win the 62nd Oregon Stroke Play Championship, held at Juniper Golf Club in Redmond, Ore. In the Senior Division, Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) came back to win his second consecutive Oregon Senior Stroke Play Championship.

Kumpula finished a stellar tournament by shooting a 67 (-5) on Sunday, ending up at 68-68-67 – 203 (-13) for the Championship. The Oregon State golfer began to pull ahead of the field after a 3-under par 33 on the front nine, and continued to push his lead after four consecutive birdies to begin the back nine. After his round, Kumpula said he felt confident in his game leading up to the Championship.

“Coming into this tournament, I knew I was feeling good enough to win,” Kumpula said. “So I just went out there and played. I played good at times, and there’s always going to be a few bad holes, but I got it done.”

Zach Foushee (West Linn, Ore.) finished in second place after recording the low score of the tournament on Sunday, a 7-under par 65. He finished at 71-70-65 – 206 (-10). Kevin Murphy (Rogue River, Ore.) ended up tied for third at 5-under par for the Championship with Ray Richards (Tualatin, Ore.). Murphy finished at 71-73-67 – 211 and Richards shot 70-68-73 - 211. Hayden Christensen (Brush Prairie, Wash.) and Brent Grant (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished tied for fifth at 4-under par 212.

In the Senior Division, last year’s champion, Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.), shot a 4-under par 68 on Sunday to come back and win his second consecutive title. Mahar shot 3-under par 33 on the front side, then birdied the 10th hole and finished with eight straight pars. For the tournament, Mahar shot 75-73-68 – 216 (E). Byron Patton (Tigard, Ore.) shot 1-under par 71 on Sunday and finished at 72-75-71 – 218 (+2) for the Championship and in second place. Don Orrell (Bend, Ore.), the leader for the first two days, shot 78 on Sunday and ended in a tie for third with Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) and Tom Prevost (McMinnville, Ore.) at 219 (+3).

Scott Carver (Portland, Ore.) shot 75 (+3) on Sunday to hold on and win the Master-40 Division title. Carver finished at 72-77-75 – 224 (+8) for the Championship. Carver won by one stroke over Cody Pinkston (Eugene, Ore.), who shot 71-79-75 – 225 (+9). Charlie Rice (Bend, Ore.) and Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.) both tied for third after ending the tournament at 226 (+10).

After Saturday’s second round, the field in each division was cut in half (plus ties) for Sunday’s final round.
