Former Stanford star Wilson tied for lead at New England Open
Cameron Wilson
BELMONT, Mass. (Sept. 15, 2014) — While the nearest amateur contestant is seven shots behind the opening-round leaders, one of those men leading the New England Open is former Stanford University star Cameron Wilson after shooting 68 at Belmont Country Club on Monday.
“I didn’t have a lot of expectations coming into this event to be honest,” Wilson told the New England PGA. “I didn’t know the golf course, so it’s hard to have any expectations without knowing the course. Today was a pretty good day, but my start was nothing to write home about. I wasted a couple shots on the Par 5s, but luckily I made a few putts at the end and it was a good way to finish.”
The current low amateur, shooting 75 in the first round, was Michael Martel of New Ipswich, N.H.
