Clifford Smith ties for fourth at Northern California Senior Open
CARSON CITY, Nev. (Sept. 17, 2014) — The low amateur at the Northern California Senior Open for the second straight year was Clifford Smith of Denair, Calif. Smith was just three back after day one but shot 76 on Tuesday. His 148 total, however, was still good enough to tie for fourth place.
Winning the event was Shawn McEntee, a PGA Teaching Professional at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa, Calif., at Clear Creek Tahoe — one of Ben Crenshaw’s newest golf courses — in Carson City, Nev. McEntee, who is a San Jose, Calif. native, shot rounds of 69 and 70 to take home the title for one stroke over Stuart Smith of Somersett Country Club in Reno, Nev.
Smith trailed McEntee by two shots heading into Tuesday’s final round and fired a closing 69 but came up just a stroke short of tying McEntee and forcing a playoff.
