Stocker Cup set to tee off Weds. 10/22 at Sonoma Golf Club
These four, and many other talented players
are ready for a new challenge this week
SONOMA, California (Oct. 20, 2014) -- The
field is
set for the 23rd Stocker Cup, set to tee off
at
Sonoma Golf Club on Wednesday, October
22.
Sonoma Golf Club has graciously agreed to
host the
Stocker Cup for 2014 since longtime host
The
Preserve Golf Club is recovering from the
effects of
California’s severe drought.
FOUR PLAYERS TO
WATCH
HERBIE AIKENS
This first-time Stocker Cup player won the
Massachusetts Public Links this summer,
and
followed it up with his second straight win in
the
Mass. Mid-Am. In the Mid-Am, his title
defense came
down to the wire where Aikens made an all-
world
par from the tall stuff on the last hole.
BRADY EXBER
This seven-time Southern Nevada Golf
Association
Player-of-the-Year had played fantastic golf
in 2014,
winning the British Senior Amateur and
placing
second at the Canadian Senior Amateur. He
followed
those two performances with back-to-back
victories
at the prestigious senior events The Azalea
Senior
and The Yeamans Hall Invitational. At the
Azalea
Senior, it was Exber’s amazing fourth-
straight
victory. That’s Tiger-like event domination.
JOHN SAWIN
Sawin, the reigning Stocker Cup champion,
is a four-
time club champion at Merion Golf Club near
his
alma mater Princeton University in
Philadelphia. He
has also earned club champion honors from
San
Francisco Golf Club in 2013 and was
victorious this
year, winning the Pennsylvania State
Amateur at the
famed Oakmont.
KEVIN WOLF
Wolf blistered the field at U.S. Mid-Amateur
sectional
qualifying, shooting a course-record 62 at
Spring
Creek Golf Club in Ripon, Calif. The number
was
seven better than any other player that day.
His
qualification lead to a round-of-16 run at
Saucon
Valley where he lost 4-and-2 to the eventual
champion Scott Harvey. View a complete list

ABOUT THE STOCKER
CUP
|
Peter
Stocker |
The Stocker Cup, played in memory of
Peter
Stocker, has been held each October at The
Preserve
Golf Club in Carmel since 2000. The severe
drought
in 2014 has limited that venue’s ability to
host the
tournament, and Sonoma Golf Club was
chosen as
the host venue. The field is comprised of 50
world-
class mid-amateur invitees, (A players) who
play an
individual 54-hole stroke play competition
and
simultaneous team event. For the team
portion of
the event, the A players are paired with a B
player
(handicap 0-12.5) who include relatives and
associates of the late Peter Stocker, as well
as
participants invited by the A players. The
Stocker
Cup is a Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World
Rankings points event, as well as a
World
Amateur Golf Rankings and SPAWAR
counting
tournament. AmateurGolf.com will be on
site
throughout the tournament, providing daily
coverage; be sure to check back in with us
to keep
up with the action.
ABOUT THE

real estate developer and avid amateur
golfer
who perished in a tragic helicopter
accident in 1990.
A 54 hole team competition, including
friends
of Peter Stocker, runs concurrently. Invited
Mid-Amateur players
