NCPGA leads NCGA 3-2 at Hanna-Wehrman Cup Matches

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2014) — In Monday morning’s first round of Four-Ball Match Play (alternate shot format) in the Hanna-Wehrman Cup at par-71 Poppy Hills, the NCPGA grabbed a 3-2 lead on the backs of three 2 and 1 victories.
Winners for the NCGPA were the tandems of Steve Watanabe/Mike Duncan, Jason Schmuhl/Philip Dawson and Mitch Lowe/Shawn Kelly.
Picking up wins for the NCGA were the teams of Danny Paniccia/Mike Stieler (8 and 6) and Jason Anthony and Bobby Bucey (3 and 1). Paniccia and Stieler have proved dangerous when paired together.
The pair is two-time defending champions of the NCGA Four-Ball Championship, held annually at Spyglass Hill.
The NCGA has won the last eight Hanna-Wehrman Cups.

The Hanna-Wehrman Cup features 10 amateur
players representing the NCGA (top players from the
previous season’s points list) taking on 10
professional players representing the Northern
California PGA in a Ryder Cup-like format.
The first day of play consists of two rounds—one
round of four-ball match play (better ball) and one
round of foursome match play (alternate shot). The
second day of play’s final rounds consist of singles
match play.
