Staedler-Jetter Cup: Senior NCGA amateurs hold slim lead

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2014) — Over in the Staedler-Jetter Cup, the NCGA a forged a one point lead, taking a 4-3 advantage thanks to four victories.

Nabbing wins for the NCGA were the tandems of Dan Bieber and Terry Foreman (4 and 3), Casey Boyns and Mark Miller (8 and 7), Jim Knoll and Jeff Burda (1-up) and Herb Jensen and Earl Stewart (2 and 1). The NCPGA got wins from the teams of Shawn McEntee and Jeff Anderson (5 and 4), Rick Dudley and Wayne Clark (2 and 1) and Larry Babica and Glen Stubblefield (1-up). Boyns and Miller came out scorching hot in their match, playing their first 10 holes at 7-under.

McEntee was the NCPGA’s Senior Player of the Year, while Babica was the Super Senior of the Year. Knoll was the NCGA’s Senior Player of the Year.

ABOUT THE Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup Matches

The Staedler-Jetter Cup features 14 amateur players ages 55-over (10 Seniors and four Super Seniors) representing the NCGA (top players from the previous season’s points list) taking on 14 professional players ages 55-over representing the Northern California PGA in a Ryder Cup-like format.

The first day of play consists of two rounds—one round of four-ball match play (better ball) and one round of foursome match play (alternate shot). The second day of play’s final rounds consist of singles match play.
