Former TCU golfer Eli Cole places third at Southern California Open
Eli Cole
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2014) — Former Texas Christian University golfer Eli Cole, a native of Beverly Hills, Calif., took low amateur honors at the Southern California Open.
Cole, who finished up his senior season with the Horned Frogs in 2013, shot a final round 64 after posting 68-69 in the first two rounds to finish alone in third place, five shots back of winner John Mallinger.
Cole's 64 was tied for the second lowest round of the tournament, which was held at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, as well as Monarch Beach Golf Club in Dana Point.
Cole has had an impressive 2014 on the golf course, despite not taking home any trophies. He placed seventh at the Terra Cotta Invitational, tied for tenth at the Sunnehanna Amateur, and reached the final 16 in the U.S. Amateur.
Cole was low amateur by 13 strokes as the second best non-professional, Sahith Theegala, tied for 33rd at even-par. Theegala is a senior at Diamond Bar High School, and won the Coronado City Championship by eight strokes back in September.
Theegala has committed to play collegiately for Pepperdine University next fall.
