BOYNTON BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2014) — Three proper Floridians took home the hardware in the Society of Seniors Championships played the past three days in absolutely perfect, if somewhat windy at times, weather conditions over the pristine grounds of the Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.

For Rick Woulfe, it was a case of deja vu all over again in the 2014 SOS Dale Morey Seniors Championship. Back in 2006 Woulfe, a lawyer by trade who lives in Fort Lauderdale and is one the most-decorated amateur golfers in Florida history, won the Morey at Quail Ridge -- the long-time treasured home of the Society. And on Thursday he won his second Morey and his second at Quail Ridge by shooting a final-round score of two-under par 70 for a 54-hole total of 209 over the South Course — two shots better than Bob Stephens of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Woulfe’s set the tone for his championship with that spectacular 68 in Tuesday’s swirling winds — and never looked back. A past president of the Florida State Golf Association and a member of the SOS Board of Directors, Woulfe has won countless Florida state tournaments, including a recent state Mid-Amateur title. He also serves as a regular volunteer rules official at USGA championships.

In the John Owens division for Super Seniors over the North Course, Van Lefferdink of nearby Juno Beach, Florida, eked out a one-stroke victory over Ted Smith of Wilkinson, Indiana — the second-straight year Smith has been the bridesmaid in the Owens. Lefferdink was three strokes behind leader Dick Lockwood going into the final round, and Smith was four back. Paired together and cart partners for the final round, Lefferdink and Smith shot matching scores of two-under par 70, Lefferdink’s 54-hole total of 219 bested Smith’s 220 by a shot.

In the Grand Masters, Bill Robischon of nearby Tequesta, Florida, shot rounds of 74-73-74 for a two-shot victory over Harry Cain of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Like Smith in the Owens, Cain also was the runner-up in the Grand Masters in 2013.
