Story by Cassie SteinLAHAINA, Hawaii (Nov. 9, 2014) — Oregon won its fourth event of the fall season Sunday at the Ka’anapali Collegiate.
The Ducks raced out to a large lead after the first round when it set an NCAA record with a 30-under 254 at the Royal Ka’anapali Course.
Oregon, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, followed the record-breaking round with a 7-over second round. It closed with a 10 under in the final round to notch a 24-shot victory over North Florida. The Ducks finished the tournament at 33-under 819 and ended the fall undefeated.
At its first tournament of the season, the Ducks shared the Husky Invitational with UCLA. In tournament No. 2, the team won the Itani Homes Collegiate on the first playoff hole over USC. For its third victory, the team shared the title with Stanford at the Nike Golf Collegiate.
In Hawaii, all five Oregon starters finished inside the top 14 on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Aaron Wise shared medalist honors with North Florida’s M.J. Maguire. Oregon junior Brandon McIver (8 under) and senior Jonathan Woo (7 under) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Wise and Maguire finished the 54-hole tournament with a 10-under 203 total on the par-71, 6,700-yard course.
With Wise earning co-medalist honors, it’s the second time this season where a Duck has claimed the individual title. In October, sophomore Thomas Lim won the Nike Golf Collegiate to earn a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour's 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
