Corey Conners is medalist by six at Argentine Amateur
Corey Conners
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Nov. 12, 2014) — Canada's Corey Conners continues to demonstrate his full potential after a year in which he lived great moments. He was finalist at the U.S. Amateur and is one of the top twenty players in the World Amateur Ranking. Last week, he won the Copa Tailhade representing his country.
So it is not surprising that on Wednesday, he has been named the winner of the Kenneth Gordon Davis Cup, which rewards the best player in the Qualifying Stage at 119th Argentine Amateur Championship FiberCorp Cup.
With two rounds of 66 and 67, the player from Canada — who will play in the 2015 Masters and U.S. Open — established an eleven under par total of 133. The south wind, which at times was intense, but did not deter Conners from making birdies on 1, 4, 7, 8, 10, 14, 16 and 17.
This was the second Canadian to win the Kenneth Gordon Davis Cup since Garrett Rank in 2012.
Conners was first by six shots over Brazilian Andre Tourinho and Venezuelan Gustavo Morantes. First-round co-leader Nicolaas Arnoldi, of South Africa, shot 75 on Wednesday and fell back into a tie for sixth.
Match play will begin on Thursday from Highland Park Country Club in Buenos Aires.
