New Year's Invitational: Chris Selfridge holds slim lead

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Jan. 9, 2015) — University of Toledo senior Chris Selfridge posted two-under par 70 for the second consecutive day and grabbed a one-shot at the halfway point of the New Year's Invitational.
This 72-hole event is being played at St. Petersburg Country Club and is the second major amateur event of the calendar year in the United States.

Selfridge, who is a native of Northern Ireland, won the North of Ireland Amateur and made it to the round of 32 at the British Amateur in 2014.
First-round leader Kyle Weldon, a senior at Kansas State University, struggled in his second round on Friday, shooting 80 to fall nine shots behind the current leader.
Michael McGowan, a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina, shares second place at 141 with Brandon Pierce, a sophomore from LSU.
Notable players in the top-10 include 2014 U.S. Amateur champion Gunn Yang who after rounds of 74-69 is just three back in a tie for sixth at 143 while defending champion Sam Horsfield, a soon-to-be freshman at the University of Florida, is also tied for sixth.

The 2025 New Year's Invitational Champion will earn an exemption into the LECOM Suncoast Classic, a Korn Ferry Tour event.
