Jones/Doherty Amateur: Gina Clark to face Mika Liu in all-California final
Gina Clark (Murrieta) and Mika Liu (Beverly Hills)
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Mika Liu will get her chance to win the Jones/Doherty Women's Amateur on Saturday at Coral Ridge Country Club — something she wasn't quite able to grasp two years ago as a 13-year-old when she lost in the final to Kelsey MacDonald 4-and-2.
Now, at age 15, the Beverly Hills, Calif. native will have to face former San Diego State golfer Gina Clark, who knocked out well-known mid-amateur player Tara Joy-Connelly 2-up in Friday's semifinal match.

Liu took out medalist and No. 1 seed Samantha Smolen in the quarterfinals before handing Jamie Freedman, a freshman at Nova Southeastern University, a 5-and-3 defeat in the semis.
Liu had a nice 2014 campaign, earning medalist honors at the Women's Western Amateur before winning it all a few days later, as well as reaching the match play stage at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
