PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Through 36 holes at Sawgrass Country Club, no team had come close to breaking par in difficult conditions at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. That is, except for the Texas Longhorns, who on Saturday were led by their superstar sophomore Beau Hossler's six-under 66. The team emerged from five back in fifth place to take a three-shot lead into Sunday's final round.

Hossler, the 2014 Western Amateur winner, shot 10 shots better than he did in his opening round to shoot the lowest round of the event by three shots. Doug Ghim, the 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links runner-up, shot 70 while 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur winner Scottie Scheffler posted 71. Their eight-under par total of 280 was better than any other team score by eight shots.

First-round leaders and host team North Florida shifted back to second place, which they hold by eleven shots over Oklahoma State and UCLA.

Dillon Woods of North Florida shot the second lowest round of the day — a 69 — and is just a shot back of Hossler in the individual race. First-rounder leader Tom Lovelady of Alabama shot 75 after an opening 70 and is in third.
