Beau Hossler named the SGA's March National Amateur-of-Month
Beau Hossler
BIRMINGHAM, AL -- University of Texas sophomore
Beau Hossler won one noted college tournament and
finished second in two others during March to
capture the National Amateur of the Month award.
The March-October award sponsored by the Southern
Golf Association kicks off it's 13th year saluting top
performances by the nation's amateurs.
Hossler opened the month by winning the John Hayt
Collegiate at Ponte Vedra Beach (FL) CC, beating the
strongest college field assembled during March. He
shot 4-under 212 to win by four strokes and led his
Texas Longhorns to the team title. Later in the
month, he was second at both the Southern
Highlands Collegiate Masters in Vegas and the Linger
Longer Invitational at Reynolds Plantation (Ga.)
Great Waters Course.
He led Texas to team titles in all three events.
The monthly winner is selected by a blue-ribbon
national committee of golf officials, coaches and
journalists. Others receiving votes from the panel for
winning March tournaments were Alabama's Robbie
Shelton, Georgia's Lee McCoy, and 47-year-old mid-
am Todd White.
ABOUT THE SOUTHERN GOLF ASSOCIATION
In addition to the monthly award, the SGA supports
amateur golf by running three notable annual
tournaments, headed by the storied Southern
Amateur, set to be played this year at Mississippi's
Old Waverly Club in July. Hossler was the 54-hole
leader in the Southern Am last summer at the
Honors Course near Chattanooga, but dropped five
shots over the first three holes the last day and
never regained the lead.
